Today kicked off the 2013 International Security Conference & Security Exposition (ISC West), where one of the big themes is remote access – the evolution of security to align with today’s “anytime, anywhere” wirelessly connected business world.
In nearly every industry, the idea of the workplace is shifting, and may not even be a “place” at all. According to a study by the Families and Work Institute, a nonprofit group studying the changing work force, 63 percent of employers said last year that they allowed employees to work remotely, up from 34 percent in 2005. Most workers are rarely chained to a desk anymore – enabled by new wireless mobile technology, they can just as easily be productive from the field or in a different part of a facility.
Security professionals can now benefit from this increased mobility, with the growth in remote security access offerings. These new solutions provide a truly mobile platform for comprehensive monitoring of businesses, schools, hospitals and other facilities – offering a powerful, full-featured surveillance management platform via a handheld tablet. The most advanced solutions allow users to access and manipulate video feeds from a mobile device as they would from a control room, with the ability to pan, tilt, and zoom various cameras.
Allowing the security team to be more mobile creates a nimble and effective workforce that can more easily address concerns. Freed from the confines of the control room, security professionals can go to the scene of an incident while still keeping an eye on the rest of the premises. Enabled by high-speed wireless connections, they can even visit other locations or facilities while retaining complete visibility.
Panasonic’s solution – which is being introduced at this year’s ISC West show – includes all the features mentioned above and utilizes Panasonic’s new rugged and secure Toughpad tablets. The tablets’ durable design and multiple connectivity options, allows users to wirelessly access their video surveillance network no matter where their work takes them – including outdoors or in warehouses, commercial kitchens, machine rooms or other harsh environments. They have the ability to handle drops, extreme temperatures, water and other hazards, and come with other features including long-life, removable batteries; expanded connectivity options and enhanced security.
